Sunday

Well today has been pretty slow.

Went out, got a paper, came home, read the paper, made some lunch..

Then the fun began!

I opened up my new bottle of Iron Gall ink and gave it a go! It is VERY different from India ink, let me tell you!

For one, it goes on a light gray and then darkens up on the page as it sits. This is a bit confusing to tell the truth. Cause I am still learning how much ink I need to use to make sure the letters all come out the same color! So far it seems I need to dip my quill in more ink after every two letters.

The bottle also says to wash your pens in soap and water after you use this ink, cause it will eat through them! Creepy huh? Well I am using a quill, but I am still applying that rule to the quill, cause I don't want to take any chances.. I mean if it will eat through metal, a quill doesn't stand a chance!

Other than that, it is pretty quiet. Gonna go work on my Display cloth. Sigh, at this rate I am never gonna get it done for Queen's Prize!

Glad to hear your experiments are bearing fruit! Your observations on the darkening of the ink over time sound very normal for oak gall......

I've been working on my QPT entry, too. Made two more different kinds of sealing wax this weekend..... and got in a shipment of vermilion from Kremers. Their catalog is magnificent. Can't wait 'til I have an excuse to buy something else from them. :)
