Well we have had that since we got them in June, and while they eat it some, they really don't like that type of hay.. As we have discovered.. They just mainly play on that big bale..
The other hay we got for them is in small bales..
Since they are eating grass right now mostly(won't start feeding hay a whole lot til it snows), they do not go through it very fast..
Are the small bales alfalfa? My dad's cows are sometimes picky eaters too. He grinds some of the slough hay (they hate it) with prairie hay (they love this), and they eat it all the same. It's easier for them to digest when it's ground, and sometimes, it gets a bit fermented, which they like. Sorta like cheese to us. :)

How long will it take them to eat through a stack?

No, you are not supposed to feed sheep that are "weathers" Alfalfa. Too much protein.
And for those of you who don't know a "weather" is a Ram that has been castrated, and they normally do this when they are babies.
When you feed "weathers" too much protein it can cause urniary calcai, and this is not good.
So their hay is orchard grass, crab grass, and lesbedeza grass.. :)
